Accessibility
Our Commitment
Building accessible digital experiences is central to everything we do. We believe that everyone should have access to the benefits of technology, regardless of ability or background.
The NetterTech Events plugin has been tested against all WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criteria and is conformant. We work to maintain that standard across this website and our documentation as well.
What We’ve Done
Typography
We use Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed by the Braille Institute specifically for maximum legibility, including for readers with low vision. Character forms are designed to be distinguishable from one another, reducing misidentification and improving reading speed.
A 12px minimum font floor is enforced across all frontend output from the plugin.
Semantic Structure
- ARIA labels on interactive elements throughout the plugin frontend
- Semantic HTML (
<header>,<main>,<nav>,<article>,<aside>,<footer>) in all templates - Keyboard navigation and focus management for calendar views, forms, and check-in interfaces
- Skip-to-content links on all pages
Motion and Interaction
prefers-reduced-motionsupport - animations are suppressed for users who prefer reduced motion- No auto-playing carousels or content that moves without user initiation
- SVG icons used throughout for consistent rendering across platforms and assistive technologies
Color and Contrast
- Color contrast ratios meet WCAG AA standards (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Information is never conveyed by color alone. Text labels and icons reinforce meaning.
The Plugin
NetterTech Events generates accessible frontend output by default:
- Calendar views with proper table semantics and ARIA labels
- Form inputs with associated labels and error descriptions
- Check-in interfaces navigable by keyboard
- Event cards with descriptive link text (not “click here”)
Accessible Events
We believe the plugin should help venues create events that are accessible to all attendees, not just produce accessible HTML. Our templates include fields for accessibility information (wheelchair access, assistive listening, etc.) so venues can communicate accommodations clearly.
Ongoing Work
Accessibility is an ongoing process. We regularly audit the plugin and this site against WCAG 2.2 AA criteria, and we welcome community feedback on areas where we can improve.
